managed to fix my problem.
uninstall all sky go software. I had an app cleaner on my macbook pro which came with it. downloaded the new app again from the webpage after logging in to my sky account. I deleted all the cookies in the browser (as it kept telling me to install the new app when I tried to watch something) which were from sky in preferences , then go into Privacy and find all the sky cookies and delete them one by one. and somehow it worked. I am not a pc or macbook wizard but it has fixed the problem. my kids are happy as it is raining outside and we can't do much else today. success
