Thanks both rscott and Pacco65 for your feedback. I am now wondering, based on what you said i.e.that the unrooting process achieved by the full unroot method afforded by the SuperSU app must leave some trace of rooting that is still being picked up by the Sky Go and Sky Movies apps, whether it might be worth doing a factory reset of my device, which I am assuming will result in the device being in a rooted state (as I am led to believe the device was rooted by default at manufacture) and then trying a manual method of unrooting. From reading various internet forums, some advice I have come across suggests using a root file manager e.g. ROM TOOLBOX to browse to the system/bin and system/xbin directories and manually delete the su binary files from here then delete the superuser.apk file from system/apps directory. However, I don't know if this would be risky. I have also read that it is possible to brick a device by meddling with the system files. Maybe I should cut my losses. The curious thing is that the Sky apps work perfectly well on my smaller Hannspree 10.1 device. However, BBC i player is temperamental on the smaller device and the app often freezes but the BBC i player has always worked perfectly on the larger Hannspree 13.3 device. Ah well, c'est la vie!
