As you have found other than turning the Sky Q box off there is no way to stop the app connecting to your box. What he might be able to do if he wants to view live sport is to install and use the Sky Sports app instead as I'm not sure if this app connects to the Q box or not so if he tries this feel free to let us know how he gets on.
