I found out how to fix the problem below if anyone is interested - The problem is that the recent Silverlight version downloaded is somehow defaulted to run on 'WINDOWS XP Vista' . You can do the below but I just right clicked on the Silverlight program  (after locating it on START/ALL PROGRAMS )  and just carried out the tasks from point 4  downwards (because I had already downloaded and run the most current  Silverlight version).

  1. Uninstall Silverlight (SL).
  2. Download SL from the Microsoft site to a folder you can easily find (do not run SL yet).
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Right click on the SL download file and select properties from the menu.
  5. Open the Compatibility tab.
  6. Click the Change settings for all users button to display another dialog:
  7. Change compatibility to Windows 7 by checking the box and selecting Windows 7.
  8. Check Run this Program as an Administrator.
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Click OK to close this dialog.
  11. Click OK to close the original dialog.
  12. Install SL by right clicking and selecting Run as Administrator (may not have to do this but this is what I did, just I case).
  13. Run INTERNET EXPLORER 11
  14. Login to Watch Sky.
