Sky Go Extra has been required for downloads for at least 4 years. It's free if you've got either Sky Q or Multiroom.

Not sure what you're saying, but Sky Go Extra does cost £5 (free with Multiroom or Sky Q). With extra you can register 4 devices (as opposed to 2 on Sky Go) and can also download from On Demand.

You don't have to take the upgrade its completely optional. As your your comment about adding things later as an extra and then charging for it well thats what businesses do and seeing as with Sky Go...
