I can't remote record that now seeing as the program has almost finished but have you tried clearing your devices cache then deleting it, rebooting the device before installing it again and then trying...

I have rebooted the box, tried syncing the box which seemed to work, however when I tried remote recording without the wifi I got the same message

When remote recording you do need an internet connection on the device you are using, it doesn't have to be wifi as it will work via 3G or 4G.
