New Sky sports app with F1 race control on other devices

$

Been using this on an iPad  and Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2016).

So far, so good all working very well.

Always used the old iPad one through the F1 weekends. The interface for the new one is so much more user friendly and switching between streamns is easy.

Would be nice though to have a split screen mode, like we have on Sky Q race control and did on the old iPad Sky Sports race control app.

SkyGo App (Android phone) - technical issue; cannot download programme

Hi All,

Apologies if answered before, but I can't seem to find the answer on here.

When attempting to download On Demand programmes (typically Box Set episodes) I tend to receive a

Because of a technical issue, you cannot download the programme. Please try again later

error. This does not happen on every programme, but many. Occasionally attempting it later will work, but in most cases not - and in recent weeks, almost never. I have noted that this seems to occur more often when the programme is only available in SD, but I cannot be sure that is the case.

I am running Android 8.0.0 on a Samsung Galaxy Edge7.

The phone is not rooted.

The most recent version of the app is installed.

On programmes that I am able to download, playback occurs without a hitch.

Any theories? Appreciate any help.

The SkyGo app on Wibdows is very poor in my opinion. I've been designing,  developing and importantly TESTING software ( apps as they're now called) for over 25 years.

This app has not been priperly tested before being released, and now it's in the wild that is much harder to do, because the, design and implementation faults are being hidden in rhe noise of any number of end-user system, ISP, or home networkeddwwsswsseeee related problems.

The Region issue nag gaveza bearing, but it will be the region local to where your ISP connects to the internet, NOT necessarily where you live.

what a pile of cr*p. I can't see anything my PC has installed that could screen record, other than Teamviewer, which I have stopped.

This app is rubbish. I used to be able to watch stuff on the web version but no I cant. Well done Sky.

Grrrrrrrr

Disagree, thwy have nore coverage, but it's not better. I think Coulthards company does a much better job, just watch the grid walk, Martin hardly ever gets to meet a driver. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sky contract F1 coverage to Coulthard next year.

But the BT app runs perfect no matter what is on - only the Sky Go app is blurring or freezing for some.  Why are Sky providing a worse service than BT?

Is it over-the-top copy protection techniques that Sky would rather have their subscribers suffer to ensure authenticity protocols are guarding their service, particularly when football is on?

I'm in the same boat. Have tried the link earlier in this post but the same result: I download the SkyGoInstaller, but no App appears on either the Launchpad or anywhere else. Snookered from watching Sky on the Go now

Has there been any official response from Sky to the ongoing issues customers are experiencing with the Sky Go app?  I'm now unable to watch anything via the app - even shows that I've downloaded - CPU spikes to 100% when I try to watch anything, making it jerky/stuttering to the point of being completely unwatchable.  I have no issue streaming or watching downloaded content from Netflix or BBC iPlayer on the same laptop.

Sky go Download not working

I set up a new iPad last week as 1 of my 4 devices, deleting my old iPad. The new iPad all works fine and watched some live tv. I then downloaded some programs for holiday and now I am away it will not play any of them. When I try to play them I get the message “Please check that you’re subscribed to this channel, check that you’re not streaming on the maximum number of devices and try again. Error code: 50-2.

But i do subscribe to the channel and I had already set up this iPad and it was working fine and I would not have been able to download the programs in the first place.

Can anyone help me?

I don't use the BT app so I couldn't really comment on it's performance but I do know that Sky and BT use different stream profiles for a lot of content. I'm also not sure what DRM system BBC use, and whether their app uses the GPU to decode video rather than the CPU. All those things will make a massive difference. Netfilx and Prime Video aslso seem to use way less CPU than the Sky app.

Netflix, Prime & BT* use the Wideivine DRM system and its pretty robust.

(I know they were going to Widevine but i can't confirm if they now have or not as yet)

BBC doesn't have any protection on the streams at all, it uses Geo-tagging to confirm you're in the UK but that's all; it can be spoofed with the most basic of browser VPN there is whereas the other services are actually encrypted.

and of course, Sky uses a DRM system that is so useless it tries to kill your PC. Happy days....

It shouldn't be , so try closing the app and rebooting your device before trying again wth it to see if it is now working ok.

Sky Go Error Message

Hi,

I'm trying to watch Sky Go on my android device and am receiving the same error message for anything I try to watch:

This item is no longer available to watch. Error Code 3-22.

This error code also appears for when I select Watch Now on any channel.

Any help would be very much appreciated, I was wondering if I should uninstall the app and then re-install...?

Thanks Popeye, wasn't sure what BT were using . As far as I can see it doesn't do any of the 'watermarking' of frames to trace illegal copies that VIdeoGuard can do or any of the 'hooks and checks' for preventing screen grabbing utilities that VIdeoGuard does. Interestingly it also uses AES128 encryption which of course has been heavily optimised for speed on most even relatively recent Intel and AMD processors. What VideoGuard uses in what mode who knows but of course a lot of it is down to the implementation in the end, and as we know that doesn't look great!

Sky Go Extra allows you to register up to 4 devices but you can only stream to up to 2 devices at the same time

Yes I would give that a go as I think doing that has fixed this error for others that have had it in the past.

well the presenters are personal opinion I guess, I've never been a fan of Mr.Coultard, and to be honest I'm a little fed up with Rossberg on Sky F1, but I put that down to the fact I'm a Lewis fan.  I just like the red button stuff and the general quality just suits me more, and the coverage of all the practice sessions is just what I like,  but I think it's too expensive as that's all I use Sky for now...  Netfliz and Amazon Prime Video cover everything else.

The Windows10 App is hopeless, I don't believe it's anything to do with the internet connection, I watched an F1 race live on my android tablet on holiday in Greece, the hotel wifi was running at ~ 3Mb and the quality was acceptable, sound was fine and picture was ok'ish, same tablet at home on my 70Mb broadband is obviously much better, but my newish Windows 10 PC on the same broadband connection is hopeless so much so that I could never watch a race on my 21" PC screen I would watch it on my 10" tablet, I work in the IT industry and can't help thinking the real problems with the Windows 10 app are more political than technical.

Come on Sky & Cisco please fix it.

Great qualifying session today for Monza race tomorrow...

Sky plus app tv guide

Hi,  I’m trying to use the sky plus iPad app to remote record some programmes on my sky Q box when I am away from home.

The TV guide in the sky plus app will only load to Thursday at 6pm, whereas at this point it should load to the end of Friday. The TV guide in the sky go and the sky Q apps will boats load to the end of Friday, but I can’t use those apps to remote record. I have tried rebooting the iPad, closing and reopening the app, and also uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Has anyone got any ideas that will help? Thanks in advance
