It’s a nightmare and no mistake.  I imagine a lot of others falling foul of the registered device limit of four,  downloading the new apps as instructed to discover that they can’t. So remove one and then have to wait a month before a new device slot can be allocated for use.  Surely Sky must have foreseen this eventuality  and -planned a work around so the device registration wasn’t an issue. A bit poor really.

Guess it's only really a problem if you have more than 1 PC or laptop.

Thankfully you can contact Sky and get device change slots Smiley Happy

Actually, it's now working.

 

It turns out, it wasn't the mac software or OS at all. The download kept promoting the launch of the old app. The new one is completely new and not an update.

 

Once I deleted the old one, the new one launches properly and I can now watch stuff!

Any answers to this problem as I have the same issue, locked out of Sky go with a blank screen running windows 7.

How to watch Skygo online? Can't Fix Internet Explorer Silverlight We Pay Enough For Sky...

...We pay enough for Sky & I even pay extra for the priviledge of watching Skygo online but ever since Sky severed all links with every browser other than sodding Internet Explorer (so outdated even Microsoft does not support anymore) I have not been able to watch anything online. I've given up trying to sort out all the issues that Windows 10 has with Internet Explorer; tried changing the language settings, tried changing the time settings, then it all comes back to Silverlight which I have deleted and re-downloaded again and again but still cannot get the thing to work.

Why would sky do this? Is there some fantastic Sky browser in development that Skygo is meant to work with??? I know this is an old, long standing issue, but did anyone get it fixed? Or did everyone just give up and stop trying to use Skygo?

This has been driving me nuts for so long....wheres the number for Virgin Media? We finally have Fibre Optic out in the sticks now and Virgin are offering everything but a free holiday to switch. We've been Sky clients for over 20 years so was reluctant to change but they have been unhelpful to the point of obtuse about this and other issues.

Hi 

 

Sky are moving away from all browser's including Internet Explorer because Silverlight is no longer supported by most of them, for that reason that have now released a desktop app that can be used instead that doesn't need any browser for it to work.

 

You can download it from Sky here

 

When you go to use it, it will register as a new device despite you installing it on a PC/Mac that was used before, this is because this new app does not use Silverlight so you might need to delete a device if you do not have a spare slot.

rscott that's fine if the desktop icon was working but it doesn't, they need to keep all options available until they sort out this rubbish. I have now tried on 3 consecutive days to login into sky go using this icon and it doesn't work. There is no point in having a "nice" litlle instruction when you login telling you to download the desktop icon when the system is failing every time. Either fix the issue with the desk top or allow people to login via their browsers. At the moment they aren't doing either and everyone is frustrated by it, they also aren't even offering any workable solution to these issues. Ask your self why a person can logiin to use the BBC iplayer system on either windows 10 or 7 without any issues. Ask your self why a person can login into the ITV hub on either windows 10 or 7 without any issues. Then ask your self why a company the size of SKY can't get their iplayer system to be workable. If the BBC, ITV and even All4 have workabale systems why doesn't Sky? It has to say something about the route and system Sky have chosen for their iplayer. Now it may be they have to have a different workable system due to the variety of channels they offer, however when people pay for this variety they expect to get a system which works. They need to sort out the issues and offer proper help and guidence for all the different OS platforms.

As well as 002 does the error say anything else and did you try again after 10 minutes or so ?

Fully agree there is no point just blandly making a statement as to why the system has to change and ignoring the fact that it does not work properly.

What do Sky have to say on this? Do they read these posts?

I have reported the issue twice to Sky and have had no response. Not sure if they read these posts I only logged in here to see if there was a workable solution. Comes to something when the subscriber has to try and find a solution to get something to work because SKY can't!

For sure but don’t most of us these days given that the restriction on registered devices includes mobile devices.  For example my registered devices are myiPad Pro, wife’s iPad, our desktop PC and my iPhone although I’m unsure why the iPhone is registered to be honest.  Solooking at that list is it over the top do you think?

Thankfully yes but who knows that? I was only aware because  pointed it out.  Otherwise we have to accept the notice given when doing it that we can only change one device per month once we have four devices registered.

Not adisimilar experience here albeit my experience was on a Windows PC.

ceasarome is correct. However from personal experience if you already have the maximum of four devices registered you will be told that you can only change a registration once per month. i.e. you will have to wait a month before you can register a new device having removed one.  Courtesy of rscot of this parish for the information if you call Sky on 03442 414141 and explain you have removed a registered device because you were compelled to download and install the new Sky Go or Sky Sports Player etc they will free up a slot for you.  This takes about 15 to 20 minutes to update your account from which point you can launch the new Sky Go, or whatever app, which will register your device and ............... happy days Smiley LOL

I sincerely hope this helps because it’s very frustrating but it worked for me.  I’m cream crackered atm but I hope to write up a full fix walkthrough tomorrow based upon my own experience with VERY MUCH  help/advice from some extremely patient folk on this forum.

Maybe one day Sky will lift the 4 device limit and the 1 per month device changes. You never know Smiley Happy
