Sky are well aware of the problems with the app and are working with Cisco on fixes.Posts on here and social media are monitored by Sky, so they know the strength of feeling about the app, but repeated posts by the same users won't make a fix appear any quicker (the data gathering tools they use do a very good job of filtering repeated posts..)
So basically, post here or on Twitter, FB, that you're having problems, feedback on what makes any difference (quite a few found excluding the Cisco & Sky directories helps, even though it's not ideal from a security perspective) and whether any of the incremental updates they're releasing improve anything.
Cheers mate. That's really reassuring.
In my line of work, if there's a serious problem with a radically new version, we make the previous stable version available again while we work on a fix. The desktop app is clearly a big issue for a lot of people.
I don't work for a rival btw. I do work with big (sometimes national) systems with many users. It's about the user experience: keep 'em happy even if it means delaying rolling out new features. Stability first!
Thanks again; it'd be nice to get an official word from Sky acknowledging this, likewise it's reassuring that they've got folk like you on board
p.s. I've dug out my old XBox 360 and ordered a WiFi adapter anyway
Re: New Windows desktop app... Stutter
Sadly rolling back to Silverlight wasn't an option - that platform was obsolete and a nightmare for them to keep running.
Sky Go Red Button
I've noticed that I cannot access the sky sports red button event tonight on the sky go app. Is there an easy way to get around this? It'd be great if I didn't have to watch the game on my tiny phone screen! Otherwise I guess I have to figure out the sky sports app before then.
I also wondered if there is a reason that sky go does not have red button features, but sky q does? Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.
Re: Error message when trying to open Sky Go App
Hello
You need to uninstall the app and some hidden folders and then install it again so follow this guide on how to do it:
https://www.sky.com/help/diagnostics/sky-go/error-pfe-desktop-app-windows
Before installing it again make sure a.nything Sky related has been uninstalled and deleted out of the recycle bin. Also reboot your computer before downloading the app and installing it again.
Re: Initialisation failed to complete in a timely manner.
Bingo!! Worked first time, great advice, shame sky support can't relay this information?
Re: New Windows desktop app... Stutter
Yeah true enough. Urgh, that was horrible.
I know there's a reasons beyond Digital Rights Management (as in, stopping illegal streams) for the app; it's actually quite nice and feels very "Sky", not unlike using the actual box.
But (and here it is), BT Sport deliver a nice experience in browser, presumably using HTML5 (canvas) which can have DRM restrictions applied. Netflix certainly does this.
Hopefully Cisco and Sky can sort this out soon, as that'll be the point we're all praising the app
Re: New Windows desktop app... Stutter
I think part of the issue is that they want the Sky Go app to provide both streaming and offline viewing support, so couldn't just use an HTML5 stream (like BT & Netflix).
Netflix have a separate W10 app for downloads, but they don't have the same device management fun Sky have to comply with (a requirement of the content providers, something also forced on Virgin & BT TV). So Sky couldn't easily have both app and browser streams but have consistent device IDs between the two.
I'm lucky enough that the app streams fine on all the devices I've tested, so I'd agree that it's a very nice experience and is very consistent with the Q look and feel.
Nothing been said by Sky about it, but I'm hoping that one of the reasons for using Cisco was to allow them to eventually extend it into a Q app too.
(oh and believe me, we have been bugging Sky about the app problems - not just the stuttering/cpu usage, but getting more useful error messages!)

And hopefully easier and more user-friendly fixes to those errors, many of which currently require uninstalling the app and wiping all traces of it and cisco videoguard from your machine before installing it all again.

As I posted earlier, they could simply release a new version that checks the frame rate being achieved and the CPU/GPU/Memory utilisation, if the frame rate is less than that required for a proper viewing experience ask the user if they would like to let Sky know with an anonymous or identified diagnostic packet. If the GPU/GPU is flat out and the frame rate is too low, the machine probably isn't up to it. If the frame rate is too low and the CPU /GPU isn't being maxed out it's probably the broadband speed or latency,. It would really be quite simple and they'd have all the information instead of guessing.
In essence this what windows does when it detects very heavy sustained CPU utilisation..it sends diagnostic data in case there's a problem with Windows getting into loops or whatever that they ought to know about.
Basically though I thinki there is a very heavy 'copy protection' overhead in the app that means you will need a fairly powerful PC.
Re: Sky Go Red Button
Red button content can't be accessed via Sky Go but if you want to watch the EFL games then you can do so via the Sky Sports app instead as they are being shown on it.
Re: Sky Go Error - PFE 9004
They are currently investaigaing this issue and in the meantime they have advised that a complete uninstall of Sky Go and Cisco and some hidden files by following the guide here
Re: Sky Go Error PFE 16000
Hi
Are you still this error code, if so can you contact Sky support so they in turn can report it to the relevant teams to look into:
https://contactus.sky.com/uk/sky-tv-apps/problems-with-sky-tv-apps
Re: error occurs On Launch, after checking for updates, when trying to play Live Streams/On Demand,
This error is under investigation by Sky so the meantime can you try uninstalling the app and some hidden files by following the guide here. Do note that this might not solve the issue for you but is worth a go.
Re: Error code pfe4002
Can you confirm if you are still seeing this error - PFE4002 ?
Re: Error code PFE 8006
Can you try this:
Exit Sky Go, End CiscoVideoGuard & Sky Go processes in Task Manager/Activity Monitor then try Sky Go again.
Re: Error 4002
I too have this issue - first 7005 now 4002 - I would love the person who is ultimately responsible for Sky Go to show some personal responsibility - introduce themselves to this forum, apologise for the fiasco they have caused, hang their head in shame and finally get a team together to sort this mess out once and for all !
Re: Error 4002
Is the error you are seeing 4002 or PFE4002 ?
Re: Skygo app not working on mac
Worked for me thanks.
Re: Sky Go Error - PFE 9004
Doesnt fix the issue though....might resolve live playback but not the download playback error 9004......tried it several times
