Hello. This has now been sorted and Sky are correcting it, so if you do come across a programme with this issue, then it is worth contacting them to get sorted.

There's a 41 page discussion about this. Sky are finally accepting publicly that it's not fit for purpose.
Sadly, they won't revert to the in-browser approach while they fix it. Specifically, they need Cisco to fix their "VideoGuard" software.
So "willy" is fine, but the general (and medical) term for human waste water isn't?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
Hi . I am trying to get Sky Go to work on my tablet. However I get the following message 'To enjoy this service please upgrade your subscription' . To the best of my knowledge I have the best (and most expensive) package available. Does anybody know what the problem is or where I'm going wrong???? Many thanks
So I originally posted a reply and it was removed, perhaps because I added an image captured from BT Sport and it infringed their copyright (or it was too embarassing for Sky to see the sharp difference in quality).
I replied specifically to Andy H. who suggested that Sky should allow their app to take advantage of graphics cards thereby improving the processing of images. While that may work, it is not the answer.
The app is called Sky Go, meaning it's on the go or very portable. So it is intended to allow access to Sky on a mobile phone or tablet, both of which do not have dedicated graphics cards.
So if they fixed the failing app for me it would not be a universal fix for all especially the mobile user and I would not be content with that.
The real problem is Sky's insistance on using a heavy-handed protection system supplied by Cisco, which ruins the functionality and performance of their app.
The solution is to scrap Cisco, and while Andy H. pointed out they might be in a long term contract, Sky can buy it out and replace it with something similar to other apps using DRM like BT use on their excellent low maintenance app.
It's Cisco that is ruining the Sky Go app, but it's Sky's determination to spite their own customers with poor visuals to protect their property regardless of the complaints and many suitable alternatives.
Hello all,
Sky Go used to work fine on the PC I am typing from currently.
Now when I try to use it or re-install, it is unplayable. It shows on my screen but just in the centre of the screen and with huge icons. Looks corrupted. So I have to uninstall it. Photo here.
It is fine on my tablet but would like Sky Go on the Laptop.
Has anyone seen this problem? Any help or guidance would be appreciated.
Regards to all, Mac.
After doing a reboot of your laptop is the Start button back in the bottom left hand corner of your screen and is what is shown on your image the result of trying to start the app ?

I think you misunderstand here.
Even the built-into-the-processor, low cost Intel GPU units, like the HD500 and 600 series, have multiple execution units inside designed to decode video streams, invert pixels etc ..as you might do in certain copyright options, many, many times faster than can be achieved in software by the CPU...so not to use them is simply to load up the CPU already groaning under the decryption , IO etc load much more than is necessary.
Why would they need to change anything about the Android or IOS apps to enable GPU support on Windows or OSX? They're completely separate applications and use different implementations of VideoGuard (Cisco components are invovled in all the apps).

Well for Android phones or tablets, instead of Intel HD500 or 600 GPUs read most typically MALI 400, 500 or 600 series GPUs which are included on the design...and they might well use the HEVC, MPEG, H264 or other IP blocks on them. The point is that on the PC architecture they don't use GPU processing capability to offload processes such as decoding from the CPU but even the very low end CPUs usually have such capability on board.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes if I close the app, all is well again. But the same happens if I try to download the app from Sky again.
As I say, it used to be fine but not anymore. I download the correct one as well (for windows).
A mystery.
Regards, Mac.
You are the first response I've had... Nothing from Sky.. .
wrote: I download various programmes on Sky Go app on HTC 10. Downloads successfully loaded showing they expire in August. I check they are Tbere. ..all okay. ..Day or so later I go to downloads to watch a programme and the folder is empty with just the screen telling me all about the benefits of downloads. This has only recently started happening... Maybe past 3 weeks or so... I've uninstalled app and rebooted phone. ..no difference. . Please help as this is so frustrating..
I would try a complete removal of the app and associated hidden files by following the instructions posted here by Sky. You can ignore the time and date bit. After doing this do a reboot before installing the app again.
We are trying this evening to delete app and reinstall...
We have downloaded something to test. The only thing different this time was the app informed us to go to settings in the phone, permissions and turn on storage, we did not have to do this before? If the download disappears again, I will get back on to sky and tell them again! They said they would escalate the issue to next level of tech people? We shall see?
Thanks for helping. I cleared everything out but it hasn't worked. Maybe my PC isn't up to spec with the new Sky Go App.
Regards, Mac.
Not mine still down
Mine didn't work also so I had to uninstall. remove all the folders and reinstall before it started working again. Hope this helps.
Good luck
